There's a lot of great information the Maggie, our Technology Social Director makes sure that to post on the Herbfarm on the Wall such as Herbfarm Staff's Pick Of The Week. In addition she'll post tidbits about all sorts of things like the weather and and she'll even clue you in on any unpublished specials that may be offered. Our pick's of the week aren't just limited to herbs and flowers. Kathyrn talked about a sometimes underlooked aspect of your garden--ornaments and other decorations.
Here's a snippet of Kathyrn's recent Pick of the Week: While the majority of gardening deals with plants, there is a minor part of it that helps add a little pizazz to your yard or garden without using any plants. Gardening without plants you say? I like to call this minor part of gardening, "decorating with garden ornaments." Garden ornaments can include any sort of garden decoration that isn't plant life including but not limited to bird houses, wildlife feeders (hummingbirds, butterflies, birds, etc), gazing globes, statuary, birdbaths, wind chimes, you get the idea. Being an animal lover myself, one of my favorite garden ornaments is a new birdhouse. The new birdhouse is from my pick for product of the week which is a collection of birdhouses and bird feeders from Rosso's Retro Chic Collection."
You can find them in the Gift Barn along with much more!
Stop by and check out our new herb garden planted this year!! See our fabulous herbs showcased in a raised bed garden. Dill (Anethum graveolens) is a hardy annual, native to the Mediterranean and Southern Russia regions. Dill leaves, both fresh or dried are used to enhance the flavor of dips, soups and salads and is used in many fish recipes. The taste of dill leaves is similar to that of caraway; the seeds themselves are aromatic. Freshly cut, chopped leaves enhance the flavor of dips, herb butter, soups, salads, fish dishes, vegetables and of course when making pickles.
We sell dill both in seed form and as a plant. Seed is the easiest way to grow it as it does not transplant well. Plant seed every ten days for a continuous crop throughout summer. Plant seeds close together to offer support for the three foot tall herb.
The seeds take a while to germinate, figure a week or two, so please be patient.
The Swallowtail butterfly caterpillar loves dill so you may see them munching away so make sure to plant enough for both of you.
Back in 1995, the International Herb Association (IHA) began selecting the Herb of the Year. For more information on the Herbs of the Year as well as a look back at previous years' selections please check out our Herb page.
